Description: As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for developing novel manufacturing methods and techniques to support all manufacturing efforts and equipment for our launch vehicles, in-space systems, planetary landers and crewed vehicles.You will work with a world class team of experts in manufacturing and help expand our presence beyond low Earth orbit, developing sustainable access architectures to space and planetary surfaces. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and often uncertain environment, contributing to innovative solutions, while demonstrating personal leadership, technical competence, and attention to detail. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.Responsibilities:Conduct research and develop prototype of novel materials and manufacturing methods for launch, in-space, and planetary lander systems.Explore and demonstrate new technologies to dramatically reduce costs, manufacturing lead-time and improve performance.Assist with transition from research and development to production, including development of first articles.Develop detailed designs, statement of work for internal and external activities, procure components and materials, and conduct testing to demonstrate material, component, and system level performance.Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects, coordinating the efforts of a small team or contractors as needed. Monitor and report on progress.Support sales and business development activities, including the development of technical proposals.Qualifications:B. Sc. degree or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Materials engineering, or other relevant fields.At least 5 years of industry experience in materials and manufacturing systems.Demonstrated project execution in a small team developing technically ambitious materials and manufacturing systems.Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more of the following manufacturing technologies: additive manufacturing, composite materials manufacturing, advanced machining, joining, and forming.Demonstrated technical expertise in multiple material systems and process development for one or more of the following: metallic materials including lightweight and high-temperature alloys; extreme environment coatings (Thermal/Environmental Barrier Coating); engineered ceramics, polymer/ceramic/metallic matrix composites; polymers.Capable of collaborating as a member of a broad interdisciplinary team across a variety of domainsHistory of developing materials and manufacturing solutions with partially defined requirements and changing criteriaExcellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate technical information clearly and appropriately to at the executive leadership level and on the shop floor.Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Desired:Experience doing design/test of aerospace hardware for a high reliability environment.Demonstrated technical expertise in materials and manufacturing technologies for spacecraft, launch vehicle, planetary landers, and crewed vehiclesA strong background in both metallic and non-metallic manufacturing processesLean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma processes and implementation.Aerospace/Launch vehicle experience.Experience with safety critical systems.Blue Origin offers a phenomenal work environment and awesome culture with competitive compensation, benefits, 401K, and relocation.
